If all these things come together in one car, the vehicle will be a super hit. Some people could be willing to reduce their expectations over maintenance costs and resale value but there will be no compromise on mileage. Car makers including Maruti have found success in the India market by incorporating these three factors into their offerings. Now, with the fuel costs sky rocketing, the significance of mileage becomes all the more important. According to a survey conducted recently, among the respondents who were planning to buy a new car, 67% was looking for better fuel efficiency over power. Here are some of the mileage heroes in the market.

Maruti Suzuki Swift - 28.4 km

The new Swift was launched earlier this year and became a super hit. According to monthly sales figures, the new Swift is the second most sold car in India. What makes it the best seller are the three key factors of fuel efficiency, low maintenance cost and high resale value. The 1.3 litre diesel engine delivers a mileage of 28.4 km.

Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire -- 28.4 km

The sales of Swift Dzire that got a new look last year is propelled by its excellent mileage. The 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine has been tuned for both mileage and performance. The new Dzire gives around 2 km more mileage than the older model. Maruti claims that one can travel 28.4 km in Dzire in just one litre of diesel.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz -- 28.09 km

Maruti Suzuki's mid-size sedan Ciaz is also good in fuel efficiency. Maruti offers a segment-first mileage of 28.09 km per litre of diesel. Ciaz is powered by the same Multijet engine used in other Maruti models.

Honda Amaze -- 27.4 km

The newly launched facelift of Honda Amaze has taken the market by storm. It has set new benchmarks in style and build quality in the segment. In terms of features and finishing too, it is leagues ahead of its rivals. The 1.5-litre diesel engine puts out 100 ps power and 200 Nm of torque. The mileage claimed by Honda is 27.4 km.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno -- 27.39 km

Sold through premium dealership Nexa, Baleno is also in for the forefront in providing better mileage. Launched with premium features, Baleno too uses the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine. For one litre of diesel, Maruti claims a fuel efficiency of 27.39 km.

Honda Jazz -- 27.3 km

Another car that delivers in terms of mileage is Japanese car maker Honda's premium hatchback Jazz. The 1.5-litre diesel engine offers a mileage of 27.3 km for a litre of diesel.

Tata Tiago -- 27.28 km

Tata's small hatchback Tiago is known for its excellent mileage. Its fuel efficiency is rated as 27.28 km.

Ford Figo -- 25.83 km

American car maker Ford's small hatch Figo claims a mileage of 25.83 km. The car is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine.

Ford Figo Aspire -- 25. 83 km

Based on the Figo hatchback, the compact sedan Aspire also offers a similar mileage of Figo -- 25.83 km. The same 1.5-litre diesel engine is under the hood in Aspire too.

Honda City -- 25.6 km

Honda's most popular car in India is the City. Initially available only as a petrol car, City now has a diesel version too, which gives one of the highest fuel efficiencies in the mid-size sedan segment. Honda claims City has a fuel efficiency of 25.6 km per litre of diesel.
