The TUV 300 has literally put its best foot forward to extend its reign in the Indian market. By adding one foot and 10 cm, TUV 300 not only got a 'Plus' suffix but also received oodles of good looks. And, the extra length has helped the vehicle enter the taxi and other segments.
Built like a tank
The TUV's design concept is simple. Built like a battle tank, it resembles a tank in strength, looks and efficiency. Every crease and line exude the strength of steel. The 'T' in TUV stands for tough. The vehicle weighs 1700 kg, stands tall and resembles a jeep, a jeep that has undergone changes to suit the modern times. The vehicle is good enough for off-roading too.
Extra length
The addition of length has made the TUV a looker. It also gives it a big vehicle feel. The extra length suits the car perfectly and gives a feeling that it should have been like this from the beginning.
Fair and square
There is no change in its shape. The fender sports the M Hawk logo. The grille has big chrome inserts, and headlamps and foglamps are squarish. Sporty alloy wheels, spare wheel with moulded cover and roof railing all add more character to the vehicle.
Features
Features are all premium and include well finished dual tone dashboard and steering, premium quilted faux-leather upholstery for higher models and fabric seats for lower ones, plenty of space, and foldable side-facing seats in the back that are wider and good enough for four people. Perhaps the only gripe, instead of stepping in, you will need to climb into the TUV.
More features
The height of the driver seat can be adjusted. The console features piano black trim and houses the AV vents and infotainment system. Dual airbags, ABS, digital immobiliser, high-tech body and strong build quality make TUV 300 a safe vehicle.
New engine
The three-cylinder M Hawk engine has made way for a four-cylinder engine. It is the same engine found in Scorpio. The XUV 500 also uses the same engine, but in a higher state of tune. The 2.2-litre diesel engine is capable of churning out 120 bhp power and 280 Nm torque. It is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The engine is refined, with smooth revs and well-contained vibrations.
Ride quality
The lower model is mainly aimed at the taxi segment, which can take in the maximum number of passengers and offer a decent ride. The ladder frame chassis is technically not aimed at providing great ride quality. But the superior suspension with front and rear coil spring units soaks in potholes and delivers a superior ride experience on all type of roads.
