Harrier: The best from Tata stable | Video

×

Harrier can easily be called the best Tata vehicle that has been launched yet. It has what it takes to become one of the best cars launched recently in India. Right from the Omega platform of Land Rover to Fiat's engine and gearbox and suspension tuned by globally known sports and racing cars maker Lotus Cars, Harrier can boast of quality and excellence in every department.

Land Rover

Range Rover Evoque, Land Rover Discovery Sports and Jaguar E-Pace all are underpinned by the D8 platform that is used by Harrier. Nearly 10 SUVs built on the same platform are available in the world now. It goes without saying that the foundation for Harrier is quite strong.

Design 2.0

Harrier is based on Tata's Impact 2.0 design philosophy. In fact, Tata has not deviated much from the concept model displayed at the New Delhi auto expo earlier this year. Quite a futuristic design from the Tata stable.

Unique

There is uniqueness in every aspect. From the daytime running lights about headlamps to the grille that reminds one of Land Rovers, you can see the difference in every design element. DRL itself is the turn indicator. Other highlights include automatic xenon HID projector headlamps and dual-tone front bumper with satin silver chin guard.

Harrier

Though Harrier does not resemble Land Rover in design, it is definitely been inspired by Velar and Evoke. The sloping roofline, big wheel arches and side cladding can rival Land Rover. Harrier rides on five-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in 235/65 R17 tyres.

Length & width

At 2,741 mm, Harrier has one of the longest wheelbases, which helps in increasing stability and inside space. Harrier is 4,598 mm long and 1,706 mm tall with a ground clearance of 205 mm. Getting in and out of the SUV will be a breeze.

Luxury

Once again, you get a Land Rover feel here. It is the first Tata vehicle to get a soft-finish dashboard. The oak wood finish and silver inserts enhance the premium feel. The seats come with good quality leather upholstery. Apart from the 7-inch TFT colour display on the console, Harrier comes with a widescreen 8.8-inch infotainment screen. The JBL music system features four speakers, four tweeters, a sub-woofer and an amplifier.

Features

Harrier is a five-seater SUV though there are plans for a seven-eater variant in the future. The driver seat is six-way adjustable, while the co-driver seat can be adjusted in four ways. Steering mounted controls are available for the music system and cruise control. Other features include cooled glove box, sunglass storage, space to keep mobile phones on the door and AC vents on the B-pillar for the backseat.

Powerful engine

Harrier is powered by a two-litre, four-cylinder Kryotec diesel engine that can churn out 140 bhp of peak power and 350 Nm of peak torque that is mated to a six-speed manual transmission gearbox. Harrier will have three drive modes - city, eco and sports. Besides, it also has ESP terrain response modes – normal, rough and wet - for taking on difficult terrains.

Safety

Tata Harrier is equipped with six airbags, ABS, electronic brake force distribution system, electronic traction control, electronic stability control, hill-hold control, hill-descent control, brake disc wiping, and hydraulic brake assist, among others. In safety department, Harrier is the ideal successor to Tata Nexon which became the first Indian car to achieve Global NCAP’s coveted five-star crash test rating.

Drive

Harrier has enough power to deliver decent performance. In three driving modes, you can choose any as per the driving conditions. But the sports mode adds more power at tap. Steering response is impressive. The ride quality is excellent; you can expect a comfortable ride even over bad roads. Though Harrier does not offer a four-wheel drive, the platform can accommodate one.

Price: Tata Harrier deliveries will begin in January. Price expected Rs 14 lakh to Rs 19 lakh.
