Spare the buses, urges KSRTC in a troll

With KSRTC buses coming under attack during each hartal, the public transporter has issued a troll with a fervent plea to spare the vehicles. “I am not responsible for all this. Kindly do not throw stones at me. A lot of people depend on me,” says the troll.

With the protests over the Sabarimala issue taking the toll on KSRTC, the authorities were forced to resort to the troll.

The damage suffered by the Corporation during the agitation has been severe. Whichever party calls a hartal, the KSRTC buses come under attack. Many people believe that unless the windscreen of at least one KSRTC bus is smashed, the agitation would not be a success. This attitude has been fully evident during the Sabarimala stir too. As many as 79 KSRTC buses have been damaged as part of the agitation against the entry of young women to the Lord Ayyappa Temple so far. The maximum number of buses targeted was on Wednesday – 40.

The highest number of attacks took place in Kollam with 24 buses, followed by Thiruvananthapuram with 17 till now. The figures from other districts are, Alappuzha 6, Ernakulam 2, Thrissur 3, Malappuram 2, Palakkad 2, Kozhikode 6, Kannur 3 and Kasaragod 5. Another bus was damaged outside Kerala.

Majority of these buses, 40, are ordinary services. While 18 fast passenger buses were damaged, 14 super-fast, one AC, two super express and four super deluxe buses came under stone-throwing. The final list is yet to be prepared.

KSRTC suffers a big loss during every agitation even though it is the common people who depend on it. The gravity of the situation could be learnt from the incident in which stones were thrown even at the parked buses at the New Bus Stand in Kannur.
