Though bigger than the original Kicks, Indian Kicks is not any clumsier. Nissan has been successful in retaining the charm of the original version. It is an eye-catcher. The big Nissan grill, muscular flanks, wheel arches and dual-colour finishing gives it a wild appeal.

Kicks is a luxury crossover at first glance, with its LED projector head lamp, LED daytime running lamp and fog lamps with cornering assist. The big 17-inch alloy wheels and magnificent wheel arches add to the looks.

Ground clearance is efficient at 210 millimetres. The A, B and C pillars come with black finishing. The floating roof design has a roof rail. There is no sun roof. The rear includes a wraparound tail lamp and silver finishing apart from black cladding.

Premium features

The interior is a blend of black and brown leather. Adding to the luxury look is the stitched leather inserts on door panels and the soft touch dash. Kicks has a digital speedometre. The rest of the gauges are analogue.

The leather steering wheel features cruise control. The stereo control is also in the steering column.

The 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system offers a wide view of the surrounding, fed by a 360 degree camera. Nissan Connect is also connected to the screen. This pervasive view is offered by the cameras fitted on the Nissan logo in the front, wing mirrors and back bumpers. Such a feature is not available in any of the other cars in the market.

Kicks offers so much of storage space. Each of the four doors can carry a litre-bottle each. The vast leg room and boot space are notable. Backseat passengers can revel in exclusive A/C vents.

The car comes with 1.5 litre petrol and diesel engines. The petrol engine with five speeds has a capacity of 106 PS. The diesel engine with six speeds has a capacity of 110 PS. Automatic versions are yet to hit the road.

The diesel variant is more comfortable to drive because it offers more power and slow speed without shifting gears down.

The car can boast of excellent control and stability even at top speed.

The price tag will be announced during the launch on January 22. The basic models are expected to be priced below Rs 10 lakh.
