Jeep plans onslaught with Renegade, small SUV and a 7-seater SUV

Jeep is set to focus more on the SUV segment in India. Plans are afoot to bring a small SUV and a seven-seater SUV to India. The sub-four metre SUV being built for India will make its debut in 2020 and the seven-seater SUV will be launched in 2021.

Earlier, there were reports that Renegade, currently Jeep's smallest offering in international markets, will be launched in India. But it now emerges that Renegade could make its way to India only after the seven-seater SUV is launched.

Though Jeep is yet to officially make an announcement, the small SUV could be launched by 2020 itself. Codenamed 526, it is being built on the platform of the new-generation Fiat Panda and Fiat 500. The small Jeep could be the first four-wheel drive in the segment. Carrying all the traits of a Jeep, the small SUV will be totally different from all the vehicles in the segment.

The seven-seater SUV will be based on the Grand Commander that is currently sold in China. It is powered by a two-litre petrol engine that is good enough for 270 bhp of peak power and 400 Nm of torque. It is 4,873 mm long, 1,892 mm wide, 1,738 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,800 mm.
