New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has made 10 days of yoga training mandatory for candidates who join for the MBBS course. The order comes into effect from this year onwards.

On the International Yoga Day (21 June), MBBS students have to mandatorily practise yoga in the morning.

Yoga training would be made part of the syllabus in the first three years. Specially trained teachers would be appointed for this.

No decision on use of regional languages

However, the NMC didn’t take any decision regarding the suggestion that the medical courses should be taught in the regional languages.

Classes on holidays
Meanwhile, the commission has allowed tmedical colleges to conduct classes on holidays, including Sundays, as the MBBS classes were started unusually late this year. The foundation course would be for 6 months up to a year. The colleges can extend the duration of this course if required. Else, they could manage by holding classes on holidays or scheduling extra classes. The summer and winter holidays have been reduced to just a week.

Supplementary exams
The NMC has instructed to conduct the supplementary exams within three weeks after declaring the results. Earlier, two months were allowed for the candidates for completing the electives; however, now it has been reduced to one month. Besides, they need to do the electives within the campus itself. Students have been instructed to allot just half a day for the electives and attend regular classes after that. Attendance would be made compulsory for this.
