Thiruvananthapuram: Justice MR Hariharan Nair Commission has recommended a scholarship of Rs 3,000 for high school students of upper caste communities who are economically weak.

In its report the Commission also suggested that mark relaxation should be allowed for the candidates of the Economically Weaker Sections in the recruitment tests for the post of high school teacher/higher secondary school teacher.

The other recommendations include, granting Rs 10 lakh as scholarship for studying abroad and allowing age relaxation for the upper-caste communities in the recruitment exams for the jobs that are notified by the Kerala Public Service Commission, Kerala State Co-Operative Service Examination Board and Kerala Devaswom Recruitment Board too have been included.

The scholarships that are granted to the students should be named after eminent social reformers like Mannathu Padmanabhan, Chattampi Swamikal, VT Battathiripad and Arch Bishop Mar Ivanios. Besides, the respective organisations should be given the freedom to suggest names similarly.

Other recommendations include providing free coaching for the youngsters of upper-caste communities to prepare for competitive exams including the Kerala Administrative Service. Coaching centres should be opened at every district for this.

The Commission has also suggested to organise career guidance and skill development programmes.
