The SSLC and plus-two exams in Kerala are scheduled to begin on March 17. Along with the announcement of the exam dates, the portions that the students have to focus on have also been published. Now, the students should start preparing for the exam. How to best utilise the time to perform well in the exams?
Sufficient time
Students of class 10 and 12 returned to the schools from January 1. Students attend the classes as per the arrangements of the school authorities and the PTA.
In normal circumstances, the art-sports events would have concluded by this time and the students too would shift their focus to exam preparations. So even now, there is sufficient time to prepare well. Therefore, disciplined training during these 2.5 months would help students to face the exams confidently.
Also, arrangements have been made to ensure that students can repeatedly watch the digital classes telecast via KITE Victers channel. Plus, the entire syllabus would be completed by January 31 via the channel.
No need to be anxious
Both parents and students tend to give more importance to exams than studies, leading to anxieties. The education department has clarified that there was no need to get worried by checking the numerous and varied questions from the previous years’ question papers. Several options such as extra cool-off time, model exams, prior notice on which all portions should be focussed on and a comprehensive revision concentrating on these portions would be held to help the students. Also, similar question paper models would be made available on the website. Students will also be given multiple optional questions so that they can choose the questions they want to attempt from a given set.
Students can prepare well without any apprehensions and appear for the exam.
Why was the syllabus not reduced?
During these difficult times, the easiest option might appear to be to reduce the syllabus. However, this would affect the students' learning in the coming years; especially in subjects such as science and maths. Therefore, the better option would be to complete the entire syllabus and to include only questions from certain portions that the students have been informed in advance.
CE marks, grace marks
The Continuous Evaluation (CE) marks would be allotted as usual. Online activities would be assessed to give the CE scores. A suitable decision is expected to be taken about the grace marks for sports-arts fields and various clubs as well.
A note for the parents
The students would be already under a lot of pressure over the SSLC and plus-two classes. Add to that tuition classes, teachers' expectations, assignments and the completely unfamiliar digital mode of education. Therefore, the over-anxiety of parents would only add to the students’ pressure.
Not just the teachers, parents too have the responsibility of supporting their children and making the students confident. To make them more aware, meetings of parents are also being held in schools.
