NEET 2021, national medical entrance test, to be held on August 1

New Delhi: The National Entrance cum Eligibility Test (NEET 2021) for admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses will be held on August 1, 2021, in 11 languages, the Ministry of Education's National Testing Agency (NTA) announced on Friday.

The examination will be conducted in pen-and-paper mode with strict adherence to COVID-19 guidelines, like last year. The application form for the NEET 2021 will be available on ntaneet.nic.in

"The NEET (UG), 2021, is going to be conducted by NTA for admission to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BSMS, BUMS and BHMS courses as per the relevant norms, guidelines and regulations notified by the regulatory bodies concerned. The exam will be conducted in 11 languages, including Hindi and English, through pen and paper mode on August 1," the NTA said in an official notification.

Bulletin containing detailed information regarding the test, syllabus, eligibility criteria for age, reservation, categorisation of seats, examination fee, cities of examination, state code will be available shortly when the submission of the application form for NEET (UG) starts, it added.

Since last year, admission to MBBS programmes in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) are held through NEET.

Earlier, Amit Khare, Secretary for Higher Education, Government of India, had said that the pattern of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG for admission to MBBS and other medical courses this year would not change.

This clarification was issued after several reports appeared regarding the conduct of NEET-2021 along the lines of JEE, which is held online over several sessions.

The Ministry of Education had announced that the syllabus of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) would remain unchanged for 2021.

NEET 2020 was deferred due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Later, the National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the NEET on September 13, 2020.

More than 13 lakh students had appeared for the exam and a total of 7,71,500 candidates made the cut. Last year, the test was offered in 11 languages - English, Urdu, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Odia, Marathi, Kannada, Gujarati, Tamil and Telugu.

The NEET is the gateway exam for admissions to undergraduate medical courses like MBBS and BDS in India. It is also the largest entrance exam in India based on the number of participants.
