Here are some eating resolutions for this New Year

Is your New Year resolution to eat and live healthy? Do you want to shed a few pounds? If yes, then a healthy and balanced diet should be the key to it. Here are four eating habits that could help you reduce weight and lead a healthy life.

• Cultured food

Studies have revealed that the bacteria that are used to ferment or culture dairy products like yoghurt and cheese actually enrich the body. The bacteria and the yeast could improve the digestion. However, all food items that are cultured or fermented may not be healthier. Pasteurization and adding vinegar for fermentation would destroy the good bacteria.

Here is an easy recipe to prepare fermented cabbage or kimchi that can be used as a side dish or a sandwich filling.

Mix cabbage pieces with salt and water. Store these in airtight glass jars for 2 -3 days.

• Leafy Veggies

There are more than 7000 varieties of leaves that are fit to be consumed. Nutrition experts say that some form of leaves should be included in the daily diet. Besides, fishes loaded with fatty acids too are great for the body. You could snack on protein-rich nuts to quench your hunger pangs.

• Home cooked food

It is always healthy and hygienic to eat fresh home cooked food. Those who are busy with their jobs can plan the menu in advance. You could prep by chopping the veggies beforehand or cooking and storing the pulses. Soups and stews are easier to prepare and store. Plan a menu that consists of food items that are nutritious and are easier to prepare.

5 fruits and veggies a day

You could choose 5 varieties of fruits or veggies from an elaborate list of dry fruits, fresh vegetables and fruits. These are often the main components of the diet plan of people who wish to shed weight. You could also include potatoes and sweet potatoes. Including fruits and vegetables in breakfast would give that essential dose of nutrients and energy. A nice bowl of oats loaded with your favourite fruits and nuts would be the perfect breakfast.
