It has been noticed that kids with attention deficit syndrome indulge in destroying things.

Many children of around eight years of age may show the tendency to destroy their toys after the novelty is lost. Even costly playthings are dismembered in no time. Then, while visiting a shop, the child may demand new toys. Other irritating behaviour displayed by the child could include restlessness and inability to sit a place for some time. Several parents are clueless about handling these situations.

Certain youngsters, when facing stress, damage whatever items that are close to them. Some of them consider this as a means to force their parents to yield to unreasonable demands. It has been noticed that kids with attention deficit syndrome indulge in such behaviour. These children may have poor abilities to handle setbacks. The kid may find it hard to concentrate on any one matter.

Suppose such a girl child gets a new doll, the affinity the youngster feels for the new plaything may vanish soon. The child then would be more interested in tearing the doll apart. When this too is done, some other matter attracts the youngster’s attention. Male children having this behavioural character could be seen playing with cars for some time and later damaging it.

Parents of these kids have to take their wards to an expert to check whether they have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Sometimes, medication is required to calm them. Other methods to improve concentration too can be tried.

The destructive behaviour of children can be discouraged by their parents through various means. The adults should make it clear to the minors that certain demands cannot be met any cost. If the child has destroyed one doll, never buy another one to replace it. In case this is done yielding to the child’s demands, the undesirable attitude will never be corrected. In fact, the problem could become even worse. But parents can buy a new toy after making the child promise that the new play item would not be destroyed.
