Tiger trapped in Wayanad reaches Thrissur zoo

Thrissur: An eleven-year-old tiger that spread terror among the residents of Thavinjal panchayat in Kalpetta and the border villages of Mananthavady in Wayanad district of Kerala has been shifted to the Thrissur zoo for treatment after it was trapped by Forest Department officials.

The tiger had preyed on numerous domestic animals at Ozhakkody, Muthirery, Makkikkolli and Vellarippalam areas near the forest, leading to protests by the local people. Subsequently, the Forest Department set up a cage at Vellarippalam in which the tiger was trapped around 12.30 am on Tuesday last.

The big cat, which was injured while being trapped, was soon shifted to the premises of the Inspection Bungalow of the Forest Department in Thirunelly. Later, after the order to shift the tiger to Thrissur was issued, a team led by top Forest Department officials and veterinarians started for Wayanad from Thrissur.

On arrival back in Thrissur zoo with the tiger, a veterinary medical team under Dr Arun Zacharia provided treatment to the wild feline.
