Hello
Among farmers who have been hit most hard with price fall are the rubber cultivators, most of them settled in central Kerala.
The farmers say that the last time they experienced such a prolonged dry spell was two decades ago in 2004.
Most of the farmers are scared of returning to their farms on the fringes of forests since one of their own was killed by a gaur on March 5.
The government issued the order a day after the centre announced incentive for export of rubber sheets.
Police have permitted 5,000 farmers to gather at the ground but farmers' leaders said they could not promise to stick to that limit.
They allegedly also set ablaze at least three vehicles including a fire engine and ransacked and vandalised the APMC office.
Demonstrators barricaded official buildings, strewn tires across the streets, and ignited them in flames.
Eighteen shooters, including empanelled shooters from the neighbouring grama panchayats and licensed shooters from the shooters club under KIFA, were deployed.
They asserted that the farmers' ongoing agitation will be intensified at the existing protest points and will continue till their demands are met by the government
