Kochi: The dreaded illness of COVID-19 had to concede defeat before the health and resolve of 103-year-old Kunjali Pareed.

Pareed, a native of Keezhmadu in Aluva, left the Kalamassery Medical College Hospital on Tuesday after recovering from the illness. The hospital staff gave the centenarian a warm send-off, gifting him flowers and a ponnada (shawl).

Health Minister KK Shylaja said that this was a proud moment for the healthcare sector in the state.

“Elderly are at a greater risk from COVID-19. Pareed's recovery is a remarkable achievement for the healthcare staff of the Kalamassery Medical College Hospital," she added.

An elderly couple, aged 93 and 88, were also cured of COVID-19 at the Kottayam Medical College Hospital.
