Vypin, Kochi: In a tragic incident, a young woman and her three children including an infant were found dead in their house in Edavanakkad here.

The deceased were identified as Vanitha, 25, w/o Sanal, children – Savinaya (4), Shravan (2), and four-month-old Shreya.

While Vanitha was found hanging in the room, the children were lying on the bed. The family members including Sanal were in the house during the night. 

Sanal told police that he slept in the hall. In the morning when he went inside the room to change clothes for going out on his fishing work, he found the bodies.

The neighbours had called up the police and informed them about the incident.

A suicide note believed to have been written by Vanitha was found in the room.

According to police, no foul play is suspected behind the incident. Family problems might have forced the woman to take the extreme step.

The police suspect that Vanitha gave poison to children before ending her life by suicide. However, the forensic department team which conducted an inspection in the house could not find the remains or traces of poison.

More clarity is expected only after getting the post mortem examination report, the police said.

Aluva Rural DySP G Venu, Special Branch DySP R Rafi, Paravur CI Shojo Varghese, Vadakkekara inspector M K Murali arrived at the spot soon after the incident.

After the inquest carried out by a team led by Kochi Tahsildar Sunitha Jacob, the bodies were shifted to Ernakulam Government Medical College.

The post mortem examination will be conducted today.
