Oyur (Kollam): A woman found dead under mysterious circumstances was forced to starve by husband and mother-in-law as they pestered her for dowry. The two have been arrested after an autopsy report revealed the victim was reduced to a mere 20 kg at the time of her death.

Thushara, 27, daughter of Thulasidharan and Vijayalakshmi, from Ayanivelikkulangara, Karunagappally, died on the night of March 21. The criminal angle was revealed during police investigation.

Thushara was denied food and was given sugary water and soaked rice once a while.

Physical and mental torture led to her death, says autopsy report.

Her husband Chandu Lal and mother-in-law Geetha Lal, 55, of Churuvila House, which is located at Chenkulam, Pooyappally, here, were arrested by the police.

Thushara's mother Vijayalakshmi told Manorama News that her in-laws prevented them from visiting her. Thushara's family did not file a complaint to the police as they feared Chandu Lal's family might torture her if they did so.
