Pathanapuram: A bank attender is heaving a big sigh of relief as he got back Rs 10 lakh that he had lost on his way while carrying out official duty here in the Kollam district of Kerala. A homemaker, named Raziya, proved to be no less an angel for Reni Thomas as she returned the bank's money she had found on the street. Thus Reni, an employee of the Kundayam Cooperative Bank, was spared the likely ignominy and legal wrangle over the lost million rupees.
Reni had lost the money as he was tasked with carrying it to another branch of his employer located at Mayiladumpara. A call had come from this branch to the bank headquarters, where Reni is the attender, asking for transferring Rs 10 lakh.
Reni kept the amount in the front pouch of the bike and set out for Mayiladumpara to deliver the money in person. He reached the branch at 3.30 pm but to his surprise could not find the money in the bike pouch.
Scared, Reni immediately informed the head office. The employees of the bank combed the entire route but could not find any trace of the missing money.
If the lost money was not deposited within 5 pm, Reni would have had to face legal action. The employees, who had full faith in Reni, pooled in money in cash and jewellery. They pawned gold and deposited the money in the bank before 5 pm. In between, they filed a complaint with the police about the lost money.
At the same time, hell broke loose at the home of Raziya who got Rs 10 lakh from the street. As there were only females at the house then, they were scared to inform anybody about the money. At the break of dawn, her neighbour Nisar informed the police and the money was handed over to the cops.
Since the police had already received a complaint from the bank, they called its authorities. The amount was handed over to them by 5 pm.
Meanwhile, Reni is clueless on how to say thank you to his colleagues who stood with him during the crisis.
