Teachers, lawyers felled by Kozhikode honeytrap racket The con women set the trap through phone, asking the victim to reach a specific location. Representational image

Kozhikode: In the recent times there have been a spate of sensational cases in Kerala in which women gangs played a nefarious role in extorting money after threatening men with clandestinely shot images of sexual encounters. A few of them had tragic endings too that shocked the conscience of the state. Similar cases have been reported from Kozhikode, as exposed by Manorama News, as female gangs have been found laying honey traps to fleece money from vulnerable men.

Among the victims are teachers, advocates and merchants. Nearly 50 people have been cheated like this in the past six months in Kozhikode. While demands have been raised for a comprehensive inquiry, it is said many police officers are turning a blind eye to such cases.

Manorama News probe revealed that the con women set the trap through phone, ask the victim to reach a specific location. They are then asked to follow the women. A deal is settled at a deserted place for Rs 8,000 for an hour. The victim is despatched immediately after a short physical relationship.

The real fraud begins after that. The victim is contacted again. He is asked to come again or pay more. The demand could be anything between Rs 75,000 and Rs 2 lakh. Those who fail to comply will be brought under pressure by sending pictures of their sexual act, shot during the encounter earlier. They are also threatened that the visuals will be uploaded on social media and the YouTube.

The fraudsters benefit from the silence of victims who refrain from complaining because of fear of losing their honour.
