Kozhikode: Medical college sub-inspector A Habeebulla was suspended on Friday by Kozhikode city police commissioner K Sanjay Kumar Gurudin over various corruption charges. Gurudin confirmed that the officer had erred in more than one corruption case and an internal inquiry was conducted against him.

There were allegations against the SI earlier, about accepting bribe from the accused and settling cases, apart from extortion. The suspension is followed by an inquiry carried out by a special team.

In 2017, the Kerala State Human Rights Commission had registered a case against Habeebulla for manhandling a 16-year-old boy in Nadakkavu. The mother of the teenager had staged a fast seeking action against the SI. The commission suo motu registered the case based on media reports.
