Kolathur: A 72-year-old Keralite woman has been reported missing while returning from a pilgrimage to Varanasi. She has been identified as Malukutty Amma from Kolathur in Malappuram district of Kerala.
The police and her relatives here in Kerala have been searching for her for the past several days.
Malukutty Amma had left for the pilgrimage along with her sister Kunjukutty Amma and 28 others on March 1.
The 29-member group, including 9 women, had reached Varanasi on March 11. Twelve of them returned on March 12. Malukutty Amma and the rest of the pilgrims first took a train to Gwalior.
One of the group members had seen Mallukutty Amma going to the washroom and returning to her berth during the wee hours of March 13. However, they could not find her by 5am. The group members then searched for her in the nearby compartments.
Though the group tried to file a complaint with the Gwalior railway police, they reportedly did not accept it. The group then filed a complaint with the Gwalior station master and continued with their journey, leaving two out.
When the train stopped at the Jhansi station next, the remaining group members continued with their search.
She was wearing gold ornaments, the tour members said.
The duo who de-boarded at Gwalior filed a complaint at a local police station. They stayed in Gwalior for two days, but could not find any leads on Malukutty Amma.
The Gwalior police have collected a couple of photos of Malukutty Amma. They also showed photos of women who were found dead at various places in the region. The two among the tour party were then asked to return later by the police.
After her husband's death, Malukutty Amma had been living with her sister's family at Pang village of Kolathur.
The couple does not have children.
