Here's an 'art wall' that depicts Cherpulassery's legacy
The Wall of Peace aims to spread the ancient Indian peace mantra 'lokah samasta sukhino bhavantu'.

Cherpulassery: A 'Wall of Peace' that portrays a region's association with the freedom struggle is taking shape even as Kerala witnessed the formation of a 'women's wall' on Tuesday. The art display, which will be on the walls of the Government Vocational Higher Secondary School at this town in Palakkad district, will also record significant heritage of the place.

The Wall of Peace will be ready in three days, said Adakkaputhur native Suresh K Nair, a well-known artist and a professor at Benaras Hindu University.

The project is being handled by a 15-member team that consists of Suresh Nair's students. The 7,000-sq-m wall is coming up under the shade of banyan trees. The culture and tradition of Cherpulassery will be portrayed on 14 panels.

The project aims to spread the ancient Indian peace mantra 'lokah samasta sukhino bhavantu', which means 'may all beings everywhere be happy and free'. Accordingly, the word ‘peace’ will be etched on the wall in more than 250 languages.

The graffiti on the walls will also pay tribute to Moozhikkunnath Brahmadathan Namboodiri, who added the name of Cherpulassery to the annals of freedom struggle, Mahatma Gandhi's arrival at Cherpulassery, Subhash Chandra Bose and his right-hand man P S Kuttikrishnan Nair.

Cherpulassery's cultural traditions, including the Puthanalkkal Kalavela of a local temple, football heritage and the history of the Cherpulassery school, will also come alive on the wall. The project is being carried at a cost of Rs 20 lakh.
