Police foil bid to poison river water for fishing

Pandalam: The police have foiled a bid by some anti-social elements to poison the waters of Achankovil River to carry out fishing. However, the culprits fled the spot before the police could nab them.

After getting a tip-off that the water at Manappattu Kadavu could be poisoned, the police quickly intervened.

When the police team led by Pandalam SI R Sreekumar reached Manappattu Kadavu on Sunday afternoon, the miscreants were seated on a boat with the chemical substances. As soon as they spotted the police, they jumped off the boat and swam away.

The police then seized the boat, the fishing net and the chemical substances.
