Labourer digging telecom trench at night killed as car rams him

Thiruvananthapuram: Drunk driving has claimed yet another life on the roads in Kerala's capital city. A casual labourer digging trench to lay telecom cables was killed after a car rammed him here on Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as John Fredo, a contract labourer engaged by the BSNL.

The accident happened at Kurissadi Junction at Ambalammukku at around 11:15pm on Saturday.

The car driver, who has been identified as industrialist Ajayaghosh of Ambalammukku, was reportedly drunk. Peroorkada Police took him into custody. His car has also been seized.

Witnesses and police stated the car was speeding and ploughed into a group of labourers working on the wayside.

A badly injured Fredo was rushed to the Medical College Hospital, but succumbed soon.
