Sulthan Bathery: A pedestrian died after the door of a moving bus struck her on the highway here.
The victim has been identified as Midhu, 24, wife of Praveen Vazhakkandy of Kallur, Sulthan Bathery in Kerala's Wayanad district.
The freak accident happened as she was walking to the bus stop at Nagaramchalat around 9am on Saturday. Reportedly, the door of a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation bus that had reached there smashed Midhu down. She was rushed to a private hospital in Bathery and later to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, but could not be saved.
Her husband Praveen is still recovering from a car accident injury sustained months ago. The couple has a 2-year-old son, Ankit.
Midhu was the daughter of Rajan and Shaila, janitors at the Bathery Municipality.
She was on her way to the textile shop where she was employed when tragedy struck.
The bus was headed for Bengaluru from Thiruvananthapuram. It is alleged its door couldn't be closed as a luggage was protruding.
