Kottayam: Enthralling the audience on the fourth day of Soorya Festival in Kottayam was renowned Kathak dancer Rajendra Gangani.

After a scintillating performance by the Manipuri dancers on Wednesday, expectations were high about the night's events too. And Gangani and his troop of artistes left the audience spellbound as they tapped in tune to the artist's step.

Before each performance, Gangani explained to the largely Malayalam audience about the nuances of his dance in English.

Ably supporting Gangani was his team of percussionists, who literally strung magic with their instruments. The tabla, harmonium and the sarangi (short-necked string instrument) all matched beat to beat with Gangani's steps as the dancer slowly drew the audience with gracious movements that gained momentum and finished with a dramatic climax.

Fittingly, the day's programme too ended on a high note with a jugalbandi that brought out the best of Gangani and his percussionists.

The organisers of the Soorya Festival presented a memento to the artist, who came all the way from Delhi.

The five-day Soorya Festival draws to a close on Friday.
