AMMA unlikely to give in to WCC tantrums

Thrissur: The recent vain bid by a few vested interests to defame actor Mohanlal, who is the president of Malayalam actors' body AMMA, has toughened its stand vis-a-vis the Women's Collective in Cinema (WCC).

It is understood that the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes won't allow any of compromise with the WCC, a gathering of a few actresses, by considering its agenda. AMMA is reportedly unwilling to hold talks with those who had resigned from it after its general body decision to reinduct actor Dileep, who was expelled after his arrest over the assault of a young actress last year. However, anyone seeking talks with it as a member of AMMA will be granted the opportunity for that.

Three WCC members who sought a date for talks with AMMA will get the opportunity on August 7, but the leadership is unanimous that there is no need to arrive at a compromise at the talks.

The WCC will hereafter be treated only as an organisation that has no connection with AMMA. And the actresses who had quit AMMA recently will not be allowed to withdraw the resignations. The leadership says the matter will be left to the general body. AMMA had received resignation letters from actresses Remya Nambeesan and Rima Kallingkal, though Geetu Mohandas and Bhavana had also announced they are quitting.

The AMMA leadership is convinced that some WCC members made a bid to keep its president Mohanlal out of the state award presentation ceremony. It believes that the WCC supported a move by some people to deliberately shame AMMA and Mohanlal. Therefore, it has been decided therefore that they need not be given any consideration in future.

The leadership has assessed that the support that WCC had within AMMA has shrunk after the latest general body meeting. The leaders will convey to the three members at the August 7 talks the organisation's displeasure at efforts to malign Mohanlal in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. It has been gathered that a female member had led the effort.

AMMA will not react to any of the negative or positive positions of WCC in future.
