Rani Mukerji slammed for #MeToo remarks

Bollywood actor Rani Mukerji has been slammed by netizens and a few actresses for a comment on the #MeToo movement. Rani was part of a TV discussion 'The Actresses Roundtable 2018' along with actresses Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Anushka Sharma, Taapsee Pannu and Tabu.

Deepika, Anushka and Alia stated that measures should be taken to make a safer environment for women and that the mindset should change. But Rani stated that women should change rather asking others to change. She said that women should take the responsibility to make themselves strong enough to handle such situations.

The actress then further suggested that women and girls should learn martial arts in order to tackle sexual misconduct. This did not go well with many of the netizens and soon Rani was under fire.

However, during the chat session Deepika, Alia and Anushka did not agree with Rani. Deepika countered Rani's remark and said, “but why even bring it to the point where girls should learn self-defence," to which Anushka joined, “why should women change than creating awareness in society.”

In the soon-to-end year, many Bollywood actresses came forward and spoke out about their #MeToo experience and many also extended their solidarity towards the victims.
