Onam box office to witness clash of debutant directors


Onam season is around and celebrations are round the corner. It's time for movie buffs to gear up for some exciting movies. Unlike the usual Onam releases, this year, the number of releases are less.

Every year, big stars fight it out at box office and fans galore for their favourite movies at the cinemas during Onam. But this year, the focus is on debut directors. Four much awaited films are hitting the screens and will ultimately prove the directors.

Movie: Love Action Drama

Director: Dhyan Sreenivasan

Following his father Sreenivsan and brother Vineeth, Dhyan Sreenivasan has finally stepped into the shoes of a director that too with Nivin Pauly and Nayanthara in the lead. “I was cautious in shooting what I really intended to and hence the shooting of the film took a while. Honestly, it's a simple film with lots of humor and action, which family audience likes to watch during festive time. All I can say is that this LAD will be a fun-filled entertainer,” said Dhyan.

Aju Varghese and Vishak Subramaniam has bankrolled the film under Funtastic films.

Movie: Ittimani-Made In China

Director: Jibi and Joju

Starring Mohanlal in the lead, Ittimani-Made In China is actor's second outing of the year after Lucifer. According to the makers, the movie will be a total fun entertainer which would remind the audience of Mohanlal’s yesteryear hit films like ‘Kilukkam’ and ‘Chithram’. “It’s a total fun movie that would remind the audience of Lalettan’s yesteryear superhits such as Vellanakalude Naadu, Chithram and Kilukkam,” said Joju, who has also co-scripted the movie with Jibi. The venture is being bankrolled by Anthony Perumbavoor under his banner Aashirvad Cinemas.

Movie: Brother's Day

Director: Kalabhavan Shahjohn

At the audio launch Prithviraj had revealed that he wanted to relax and that's why he chose to do Brother's Day movie after Lucifer. And when someone from Kalabhavan is helming the film, one can expect ample dose of drama. “I personally like to watch the comical side of Prithviraj and that's how I have potrayed him in my movie. But at the same time, as an avid thriller movie buff, I would ask viewers to come to theater expecting a family thriller from Brother's Day,” said Shahjohn.

Listin Stephen has bankrolled the film under his banner Magic Frames which has Aishwarya Lekshmi, Madonna Sebastian and Prayaga Martin as female leads.

Movie: Finals

Director: Arun PR

Among the comic capers for Onam, newcomer and former theatre director, Arun is coming up with a sports drama with Rajisha Vijayan in the lead. “Sports movies are barely made in Malayalam. Finals will be an emotional family drama based on the high-speed sport cycling. I hope the film will fetch mainstream attention to the sport,” said Arun.

Maniyanpillai Raju and S Prajeev has bankrolled the film under Maniyanpillai Raju Productions in association with Heavenly Movies.
