Monday Motivation | Chemban Vinod on competing with oneself

Actor Chemban Vinod has entertained Malayalam audience with his varied character roles within a short span of time. The young comedian who is all set to take up the role of a scriptwriter talks to Onmanorama about his attitude towards work and life:

“I am not a writer precisely. My aim is to make others happy, which will ultimately give me happiness. The things that are now happening in my life is quite unbelievable. Until a few years ago, I couldn't even dream about such things in life. I believe everything happens for a reason and happens for the good. Before entering into the world of films, I spent my life in Angamaly and in Bengaluru. Even then I used to think that many of personal experiences could be made into a movie. It was much later that very casually I talked about one such incident to director Lijo Jose Pellissery. He heard it very patiently and promptly said let's make this into a movie.”

Competing with co-stars

“Never. Rather than competing with each other as artists, I believe one should compete with yourself. Each time you act, you should try to do better than your earlier role. Right now Malayalam cinema is witnessing an array of good films with many talented directors.

“Initially, I thought with my physicality, I will be typecast in mere 'goonda' roles. But looking back, I could do different shades of comedy and character roles as well.”

Good cinema

“When you go for a temple festival, you can see people worshiping, people buying things, people looking and roaming around. Just like that for a film, different types of audience will be there. So, a film should be a mix of different emotions, appealing to all kinds of people,” he added.
