'Oru Vadakkan Selfie' to be remade in 5 languages

A still from the movie

The makers of recent Malayalam hit Oru Vadakkan Selfie (OVS) are on cloud nine and they have all the reasons to be so.

The film’s official Facebook page broke the news that the Nivin Pauly-starrer will be remade in not just one, but five different languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Marathi and Bengali.

If the project materialises, this will break the record set by Drishyam, which has four official remakes, including Papanasam in Tamil with Kamal Haasan in the lead and Drishyam itself in Bollywood with Ajay Devgn in the lead that are set to release next month.

According to the OVS post, the remake rights for some of the languages have been sold while discussions regarding the others are progressing. More details about the remakes will be revealed soon. The Malayalam flick is nearing its 100 days in theatres.

Oru Vadakkan Selfie, which is Mollywood's first super-hit in 2015, was directed by G. Prajith. The movie is penned by actor-filmmaker Vineeth Sreenivasan, who has also played a pivotal role in the film. Manjima Mohan essayed the female lead in the movie.
