Kottayam: Film actor Salim Kumar has resigned from the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).

The actor alleged that there was an unwritten law in AMMA that the actors would not directly take part in the campaign activities in Pathanapuram, where the three main candidates are actor-turned politicians. On Thursday, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal had attended the campaign rally of LDF candidate Ganesh Kumar in Pathanapuram.

Salim Kumar, who is a vocal supporter of the Congress-led UDF, was miffed by the superstar's move and made the surprise move. Actor-turned politician Jagadish, who is contesting against Ganesh Kumar in Pathanapuram, also voiced his discontent over Mohanlal campaigning for the Left.

The NDA candidate in Pathanapuram is actor Bheeman Raghu.

Salim Kumar is likely to hand over his resignation to AMMA president and Lok Sabha MP Innocent on Friday or Saturday.
