Kochi: S Sreesanth was arrested from a Mumbai hotel by the Delhi Police on the night he had held discussions with director Kiran Phadnis about a possible role as guest star in Hindi flick Gurudakshina. Sreesanth's friend and actor Rajeev Pillai was set to play the lead role in the film.
For the last two years, showbiz has been a big relief for Sreesanth, who was banned from playing all forms of cricket. Even when he was active as a player, Sreesanth was attracted to the entertainment industry and dancing in particular.
Though his name was linked to many films in several languages, Sreesanth is now set to make his acting debut in Bollywood film Cabaret, directed by Pooja Bhatt.
Sreesanth had signed a contract to act in the film last year and had completed 15 days of shooting. He is playing the role of a man from Kerala who is the mentor of the female lead, who is a dancer. Sreesanth got the offer for the project after his performance in celebrity dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.
Earlier, there were reports that Sreesanth would make his acting debut in Anbe Azhaku which was to be made in Tamil, Kannada and Telugu. Sreesanth, who formed the music band S36, had also signed a contract to compose music for the film and had started work on five songs. However, the project was shelved. Sreesanth's biggest supporter during his difficult period was his brother-in-law Madhu Balakrishnan who inspired and urged him to become a music composer.
After the BCCI ban, Sreesanth was denied permission to even enter the Kaloor international stadium, where he started playing cricket. However, cinema connections paved way for his entry to several international stadiums. Sreesanth was the mentor and bowling coach of Celebrity Cricket League team Telugu Warriors and the cricketer played a big role in Warriors' title win last year. Sreesanth also shone as the host of popular celebrity reality show on a Malayalam TV channel.
