Alappuzha: It has been more than 25 years since Ramji Rao Speaking hit the screens. Along with Mathaichettan, Gopalakrishnan and Balakrishnan, their house 'Urvashi Theatres' too found a place in our heart, as though it played a significant character in the movie.
A good portion of the famed building has been demolished already. The wood work has been removed and only the front portion of the house still remains.
Ramji Rao Speaking was Siddiq-Lal team's first movie. Once the directors decided that Alappuzha would be the main location for the movie, the next on their priority list was zeroing in on a house.
They searched far and wide for a house, which would look a bit rundown, had a well and enough space for parking a drama company van. The production executive Ramesh was the one who found this house. The directors approved of the house in the first sight itself. The rest is history; the movie became a runaway hit and the same house was featured in its sequel too.
The building, which was once an iconic location, would soon be just a memory and the movie, the only reminder of Urvashi Theatres.
