Serial actress Saranya needs more treatment and support

Popular serial actress Saranya underwent seventh surgery at the Sree Chithra hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, after her brain tumor recurred with more intensity. She was diagnosed with tumor six years ago and had already undergone six surgeries. It was Saranya’s colleague and actress Seema G Nair who revealed that the former was battling for her life and had sought financial help for her.

Seema told Manorama about Saranya’s present condition. She said that Saranya has been shifted to a room after the surgery. “Her right side was paralyzed when she was rushed to the hospital. Now, she can feel when someone touches on her legs. However, she hasn’t regained its movement. Physiotherapy and other treatments have to be done for that. Though the seventh surgery got over, we are all still scared. The chances of tumor appearing again cannot be brushed aside. When the tumor gets affected on the veins in the brain, it cannot be completely removed. Trying to remove it entirely would be life threatening. This remaining part grows into new tumor cells each year,” explained Seema.

The actress noted that Saranya was the sole bread winner of the family and that it has become difficult for them to manage the household expenses and the educational expenses of her younger siblings, a brother and a sister.

“Saranya requires more treatment. This family has no one to support them. That is why I decided help her. The family doesn’t even have a house of their own. They shift through rented houses and it is extremely difficult to find money to pay the rent every month. It would be a great help if the family gets at least a house of their own to stay in. Even a veteran actress like me who has been in the industry for so long is financially unstable. So, you can imagine the situation of someone like Saranya who has just come into the industry. Severe headaches, unconsciousness and fits too come with the growing tumor. Saraya was admitted to the hospital after she fell unconscious,” said Seema.

It was in 2012 that Saranya was diagnosed with brain tumor for the first time. Seema was then an active member of the serial artist’s association. KB Ganesh Kumar who was a minister then had allotted funds for Saranya’s first surgery. But the tumor kept recurring and it became difficult for everyone to help her financially.

“I had to come for their help as they family has no one. Saranya is now like my sister. This family needs help from kind hearted people. The family is going through great difficulty and I have no other way than to let you know about their plight,” concluded Seema.

Saranya’s friends and colleagues too say that her family is financially devastated, especially after the tumor kept coming back. Saranya who acted in many super hit serials and a few films was the sole bread winner of the family.
