Took just an hour to transform into Geetha: Samvrutha Sunil on comeback role

Actress Samvrutha Sunil’s husband Akhil is a teetotaler who doesn’t drink alcoholic beverages. However, her friends refuse to believe Samvrutha when she vouches for her husband. A scene from the teaser of her upcoming movie Sathyam Paranja Viswasikkuvo has become viral on the social media and the actress has been garnering praise for it.

In the video, Samvrutha's character Geetha is seen as chiding her husband who has come home drunk. One of her friends called Samvrutha and said, ‘It is not possible for the wife of someone who doesn’t drink alcohol to do this scene with such brilliance.’

Samvrutha says the title of the movie, ‘Sathyam Paranja Viswasikkuvo’, is her answer to them. Keralites have a special place for Samvrutha Sunil in their hearts and it is evident from the overwhelming response that the teaser of the movie has been garnering.

The Malayali audience is eagerly waiting to see their favorite actress on screen again, through Sathyam Paranja Viswasikkuvo directed by Oru Vadakkan Selfie fame G Prijith.

It’s been too long since you came in front of the camera, right?

The crew has already been filming for fifteen days when I reached the sets. By that time, everyone else got accustomed to the plot and their respective characters. When I saw actor Biju Menon, I felt he looked exactly like a construction worker. I was tensed whether I would be able to pull off my role. But the kind of welcome that I got at the sets was really overwhelming. It gave me confidence to perform seamlessly.

Did you try to understand the lives of construction workers as part of your preparation for this role?

Screen writer Sajeev Pazhoor and director Prijith had clearly explained the character called Geetha to me. Besides, we are not too unfamiliar with construction workers and their lives. Most importantly, the location where we shot played a vital role as well. The movie was filmed at a rustic village between Mahe and Thalassery. I became Geetha when I spent an hour inside the small, un plastered house built with laterite stones.

How was your experience working with Biju Menon?

Though we have acted together earlier, this is for the first that I am playing the female lead opposite Biju Menon. I really appreciate how he supported me while filming the climax of the movie. He was very helpful personally too. He dialed up Samyukta chechi for me when I came in for my schedule. She gave me confidence and said, ‘I have asked Biju to make you very comfortable. He would be there to help in case you want anything.’ We mostly spoke about our respective families during the breaks between shots.

Do you feel the cinema has changed now?

The nuances of my character were explained to me when I was in the United States. The main instruction was to not pluck my eyebrows because Geetha is not someone who would make occasional visits to the beauty parlor. Earlier, importance to such details was given only in the academic cinema. In the mainstream cinema, the costumes and the looks of only the male lead were designed. However, now, things have changed a lot. Even women characters and minor characters too are given significance. These are amazingly portrayed on the screen as well.

Samvrutha Sunil is settled with her family in the United States of America. Her husband Akhil is an IT profession. The couple has a four and a half year old son, Agastya, who studies in pre - school.
