Vimaanam: a clean flight

Vimaanam is doubtlessly a successful portrayal of hard work, passion and love.

Debutant screenwriter-director Pradeep M Nair's Vimaanam, which centers around a high-flying product of passion, has beaten Mollywood's anticipations about another Prithviraj masterpiece after Ennu Ninte Moideen.

Vimaanam is doubtlessly a successful portrayal of hard work, passion and love. The movie progresses through a flash-back into the life of Padmabhooshan awardee Dr Venkateswaran played by Prithviraj.

Vimaanam takes the audience to the mid-seventies where an inquisitive boy of seven expresses his desire to fly like a bird, to his elderly friend Roger (Alencier.)

With the help of his uncle (Sudheer Karamana), he works for over a decade to develop a successful prototype.

Aby fame Durga Krishna has done a wonderful job as Venkateswaran's (Venkiti) lady love Janaki. The depth in her eyes and her effortless transformation as the character has presented the couple's romance in the most compelling and convincing manner.

Their unfulfilled dream of a flight together besets the audience all through the movie. Sudheer Karamana, Alencier and Lena truly lived their characters on screen, with their subtlety and perfectionism.

The soothing background theme music takes lifts and drops to steer the viewers through joy, sorrow, rage and curiosity.

At the end, a viewer can't think of the movie without remembering the rising, optimistic note of the background score.

Rather, Gopi Sundar's composition has floored movie buffs. The script and direction also deserves an applause.

Prithviraj has done justice to his character as it demanded a total makeover in his appearance, costumes and dialogue delivery.

Yet, there are scenes meant for fans to cheer, where the hero delivers punch dialogues, smashes the face of his rival and walks in slow motion.

Vimaanam, the story of a crazy youngster who wished to fly becomes the saga of a successful scientist who is honored by the nation.

Vimanam is a milestone and launches the director into the clearest of skies to explore, experiment and succeed.
