A musical tribute to women

A still from the video

Kerala's music has come a long way from the days of quaint tunes and melodies, constantly pushing boundaries. Thanks to Avial's folk-rock fusion, our tunesmiths are now digging deep into the state's rich folk tradition. And sure enough, music buffs are lapping it up.

The latest on the roll is musician Sanjeev Thomas' adaptation of Pallivallu bhadravattakam, a traditional folk number, which is an invocation to Goddess Bhadrakali.

The music video promotes female empowerment and features dancer Soumya Jaganmurthy and model Divya Shetty. Sayanora's raspy voice renders a greater texture, poignancy and feeling to the song, which is a tribute to womanhood itself.

The picaresque video has been shot in Idukki and Karnataka. Directed and scripted by Gomtesh Upadhye, the video on YouTube is getting favourable responses from many.
