Awards that came calling

Ravindra was conferred the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India, in 2015

Ravindra Jain never chased awards in his career spanning over four decades. He had the magnanimity to accept the reality when he was ignored by the same award committees that selected singers including Yesudas even for even national awards for singing the songs composed by him.

For Ravindra, who was conferred the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India, in 2015, the only major recognition from the industry came his way in the form of the Film Fare award for ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’ in 1985. The nine super-hit songs by Ravindra played an important part in the spectacular success of the movie which shattered box-office records across the country. Lata Mangeshkar has sung six out of the nine songs in the film. Besides the award for best music director, the movie won four more Film Fare awards that year.

The major awards won by Ravindra are as follows:

Uttar Pradesh Hindi-Urdu Sahitya Award

Rasewar Award

Sur Singar Samsad Award

Priyadarshini Award

Jaycees’ National Talent Award

Lions Club Award
