Kochi: In-patients and bystanders at Government General Hospital squeezed into the windows of their rooms on Wednesday when Remya Nambeesan stood on a stage in the rectangular lawns and recreated a prayer song which she used to sing during her school days.

The evident enthusiasm of the tightly-packed audience at the venue in downtown Ernakulam was proof to the popularity of the noted actress-singer as she performed at the 73rd edition of the weekly Arts and Medicine Programme organised under the aegis of Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF) along with Mehboob Memorial Orchestra and Lakeshore Hospital and Research Centre Ltd.

The assemblage, keeping aside all their health issues and grievances, cheered the 29-year-old artiste when she started singing her debut song Anda Londe from the movie Ivan Megharoopan. The show hit the right chords highlighting the motive of the initiative.

“We have always witnessed a melancholic atmosphere in hospitals, and this is a unique initiative which changes that scenario,” said Remya. “Being interested in music it is always my pleasure to get associated with Arts and Medicine Programme.”

Now 29, Remya started her career as an actress in the 2000 movie Sayahnam, later also finding slot as a playback singer after performing Aanda Londe in Ivan Megharoopan. A native of Chottanikkara south of this city, she then went on to captivate movie buffs through flicks in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu films.

The latest chartbuster Malare Ninne from Premam, performed by music director Rahul Subramanian, ignited a huge applause from the crowd. Young playback singer, Arun Alaat enthralled the crowd with his own hit song Swapnam Oru Chaku from Best Actor.

Haritha Balakrishnan also joined the team with famous song Paatil ee Paatil from the movie Pranayam. Meanwhile, the singers also peppered the show with some vintage songs including Kanana Chayayil and Suruma Ezuthiya.

The gathering also paid homage to the late music legend M S Viswanathan and noted musician and keyboardist Kannan Sooraj.
