Renowned singer K.J. Yesudas is back in Bollywood to render a Hindi song after a gap of 18 years. Yesudas was at the peak of his fame when he forayed into Hindi film industry in the 1970s and mesmerised millions of music enthusiasts with some master pieces which are still listened to with great zeal.
However, the veteran singer vanished from the Hindi domain very shortly after that for reasons unknown and kept his focus limited to South Indian films. Nevertheless, aficionados keep humming to the tunes of 'Gori tera gaav,' 'Bole to basuri,' 'Chand jaise,' and so on with great fervour. He returned to the India's biggest film industry in 1997 to give voice to 'O bhavre...' composed by A.R. Rahman for the Sanjay Dutt-starrer Daud.
Yesudas is now making a return to Bollywood through the film “Barefoot To Goa”, directed by Praveen Morchhale. It was Morchhale who broke the news that Yesudas was approached to sing the track 'O Naina re...' and that the veteran singer liked the lyrics that brimmed with nostalgia. Morchhale disclosed that the song was recorded in Chennai.
“Barefoot to Goa” is a film that reflects the degradation of the Indian society. It revolves around two children who leave their home to meet their aged and ailing grandmother. The film sails along the events and sights the two boys witness during their journey.
Sonu Chourasia, Ajay Choudhary, Farukh Jaffer, Prakhar Morchhale, Sara Nihar, Poorva Prag, Gaurav Patel and Kuldeep Singh, among others appear in prominent roles in the film.
The story and screenplay is by the director himself. Jack Francis, Farukh Jaffer and Rohit Sharma have teemed up for composing the music. The film, co-produced by Praveen Morchhale and Sathyajit Chourasia, has already won critical acclaim at various international film festivals. The film was released in India on April 10.
