Jayaram is a fan of delicious food at Anjappam eatery

Actor Jayaram and his colleagues surprised the women who run the Anjappam eatery in Changanassery by dropping in to have a hearty lunch. However, it was the actor who was stunned when a delicious spread of various dishes was placed in front of him. Avial, brown grams stir fry, beetroot pachadi, pineapple sweet curry, chilli chutney, tender mango pickle, sambar, and buttermilk were specially served for Keralites' favourite 'family' hero and his friends.

Seeing the freshly cooked vegetarian dishes, actress Athmiya, actors Kalabhavan Prajod and Tini Tom, director Sanal Kalathil, cinematographer Sajan Kalathil and art director Salu George too were happy. The film personalities felt refreshed drinking the hot rice water that was served along with the lunch. The Anjappam eatery treated their favorite actors to some delicious adaprathaman (dessert) as well. The actors were really impressed by the tasty dishes that they promised to talk about Anjappam at all their shooting locations.

Anjappam

It was Fr Bobby Jose Kattikadu and his colleagues who came up with the idea of Anjappam which projected the significance of sharing delicious food and knowledge. The outlets of the eatery have been opened at four places across the state. The most noticeable feature at this eatery is its absence of a cash counter. Those who enjoy the meals at Anjappam can drop money, as they wish, in a box that is kept in front of the eatery. It is alright even if someone decides not to put money in it. The eatery gets transformed into a busy library in the evenings. Anjappam, then, becomes an artistic space where anyone can read a book peacefully or showcase their talents, while enjoying some delicious tea time snacks.

Around 200-230 people turn up at Anjappam every day for the lunch service alone. The delicious sambar is the highlight at this eatery. Though sambar was replaced by tomato curry and dal curry for a short while, sambar had to be brought back due to the insistence of the foodies who are regulars here. After the lunch, a sweet dish or a fruit too would be served. It would mostly be payasam, kesari, banana or watermelon. In the evenings, tasty snacks cooked in steam would be served for those who come to enjoy the tea and books.
