The Manohari tea estate in Assam has recently entered the record books for an incredible and unbelievable feat. A kilo of special handmade tea, produced here, was sold for a whopping Rs 50,000 at an auction. The officials at the Guwahati tea auction centre said that it was for the first time that Assam tea has grabbed such a high price at an auction.

The tea powder, which is sold under the brand name 'Manohari Gold Tea' is made from rare species of tea leaves. The Assam tea is famous around the world for its unique taste and quality.

Usually, the full grown leaves of the tea are turned into tea powder. However, fresh leave buds that have just bloomed are processed to make the Manohari Gold. This species was developed by experts after a research of 5 years. The fact that the tea powder is made not from the leaves but from the buds make it rare and special.

The fresh tea leaves are picked early in the morning. The owner of the tea estate said that just five kilos of tea are produced in a year, like this. Meanwhile, many reports suggest that the tea planters in Assam are financially struggling and hence they have turned to producing such high quality tea instead of concentrating on huge harvest.
