Tapioca is a staple food in Kerala and is mostly grown in our backyards or is available quietly cheaply in the market. It is sold for Rs 20-30 per kilo here. However, the humble tapioca costs more than Rs 400 per kilo on popular online retailers like Amazon, in Bengaluru.

Recently, ‘Kerala special homegrown tapioca’ was sold for Rs 429 per kilo on the shopping website. However, you could buy it for Rs 399 after a 7% discount. However, it is not known how many people have bought tapioca for such high prices. Even if someone orders it, the tapioca would be delivered only by next Friday.

Not just fresh tapioca, dried tapioca and chips too are sold online. 2 kilos of dried tapioca cost Rs 699. However, you could buy them for Rs 448 after a 36% discount. Meanwhile, tapioca chips are available for Rs 200-450 for 100 grams.

However, in Kerala, tapioca is available for Rs 45-55 per kilo at the stores that sell products from Kerala. Every week, tapioca and other items are brought from Kerala to Bengaluru in mini Lorries. Raw plantains, yams, colocasia, raw mangoes, or Chinese potato and dried shrimp too have many takers at the metro city.
