Chicken piralan - A sadya special from Malabar

Finalising a menu for that special day around the corner? If you are game, go for a non-veg Malabari sadhya with this spicy chicken piralan.

For Northern Keraliites, no feast would be complete without a piece of some spicy non veg dish on the platter. Here's the recipe to give that Malabari touch to your special day too.

Ingredients
Chicken cut into small pieces
Lemon
Oil
Onions
Chilli powder
Turmeric powder
Ginger
Garlic cloves
Peppercorn
Cumin seeds
Cinnamon
Cloves
Cardamom
Fennel seeds
Salt

Preparation
Grind turmeric powder, ginger, garlic, peppercorn, cumin seeds, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, fennel seeds and salt in a mixer grinder
Add this ground paste to the chicken pieces
Squeeze one lemon to it
Add salt
Marinate the chicken for 1 hour
Heat oil in a pan
Saute chopped onions till they turn golden brown
Drain off excess oil from the onions and keep aside
Add marinated chicken to the oil and fry them
Take them out of the pan and mix with the fried onions
Reduce flame to medium and add them back to the pan

Cover it with a lid and allow it to cook
