Soft upma

Upma is the easiest dish that is most often not prepared well. Hence the unpopularity of this wonderful breakfast item. Try this recipe that gives you dewy soft upma that would be a sure success with the children!

Ingredients
1 cup rava
3 cups boiling water
½ cup onion, sliced thin
1 tsp ginger, sliced
2 tsp green chillies, chopped fine
1 dried red chilli, split
3 tsp vanaspati (hydrogenated vegetable oil)
1 sprig curry leaves
½ tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp black gram/urad dal
Coriander leaves, for garnishing
Salt, as required

Preparation
Drop the vanaspati into the hot pan
Put in the mustard seeds and let them splutter
Add the black gram and wait until it turns brown
Drop in the red chilli, and then the onion
Add the green chillies, sliced ginger and curry leaves
Put in the rava and mix well
Add salt to the mixture and saute until it is lump-free
Now, pour the boiling water into the rava mix and blend well
Soft upma is ready within minutes
Garnish with some chopped coriander leaves
