Spicy curried dumplings

During the festive season, serve these unique mutton dumplings in a savoury and delicious gravy that will catch all eyes and please all palates!

Ingredients
For the dumplings


½ kg minced mutton
2 dsp shallots, chopped
Salt, as required
1 dsp ginger, sliced
1 dsp garlic, sliced
1 tsp green chillies, sliced fine


For the masala paste


1½ tsp chilli powder
1 dsp coriander powder
½ tsp turmeric powder
1½ tsp crushed pepper
½ tsp fennel seeds
2 pieces cinnamon
2 cardamom pods
½ tsp cumin seeds




For the gravy


1 cup onion, sliced
1 cup thin coconut milk
¾ cup thick coconut milk
1 dsp vinegar
A few sprigs of curry leaves
Salt, as required
¼ cup refined vegetable oil
4 green chillies, slit
1 tsp garlic, sliced
1 tsp ginger, sliced
Half the ground masala paste

Preparation
Grind together fennel seeds, crushed pepper, coriander powder, chilli powder, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, cinnamon and cardamom with a little water to make a fine paste. Keep aside
To the minced meat, add salt, half of the ground masala, ginger, garlic, green chillies and sliced shallots
Blend them well
Make small balls out of the mixture and keep them aside
In a skillet, pour oil
Put in the sliced onion
Add the sliced ginger, garlic and green chillies. Saute well
Now, add the rest of the ground masala to the skillet
Once the raw scent escapes the mixture, pour in the thin coconut milk
Add a few curry leaves
Let it cook under the lid for five minutes
Once it starts to boil, take off the lid and pour in the vinegar
Start putting in the dumplings one after another slowly without breaking them
Give it a mix and put the lid on the skillet letting it cook for 20 minutes
Once it's done, pour the thick coconut milk over it
Take off the flame before it boils again
Delicious spicy curried dumplings are ready to be served
