Super soft and delicious appam made with broken wheat can be paired with regular coconut chutney or non-vegetarian curries. Try this easy recipe for broken wheat appam.
Ingredients
1 cup broken wheat (250 ml cup)
¼ cup grated coconut
2 tsp sugar
2 tbsp boiled rice
A pinch of yeast
Salt as required
Water as required
Preparation
Soak the broken wheat for at least 30 minutes
Wash them well and put it into a mixer jar
Add grated coconut, boiled rice, 1 tsp sugar, yeast and some water as well
Grind into smooth batter
Transfer the batter into another vessel
Keep it aside for at least 8 hours for the batter to rise
Now add 1 tsp sugar and salt as required
Mix well
Pour a ladle full of batter on a hot pan
Do not spread the batter
When small holes begin to appear on the appam, rub a bit of oil
Cook with the lid on. There is no need to flip and cook
Enjoy the soft broken wheat appam.
