Kerala Budget leak: finance minister's aide removed

The opposition said that finance minister Thomas Isaac should take responsibility of the issue and step down from his post.

Thiruvananthapuram: Hours after Kerala Assembly witnessed high drama with the Congress-led UDF alleging that contents of the state budget were leaked on social sites, the assistant private secretary of finance minister Thomas Isaac was removed from his post.

Assistant private secretary K. Manoj Kumar was removed from the post, Manorama News reported on Friday.

Meanwhile, finance minister Thomas Isaac has admitted that a miscalculation by one of his staff led to the Budget leak. The staff concerned reportedly sent the copies for the media ahead of the Budget.

"However, I don't think it was a deliberate attempt to sabotage the budget," Isaac said during a chat show on Manorama News. But he did not name the official.

Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala alleged that the details of the Budget speech were being circulated on social media even before Isaac read out those in the House.

Chennithala even displayed copies of the details of the Budget speech in the assembly. The opposition said that Isaac should take responsibility of the issue and step down from his post.

The opposition filed a complaint with governor P. Sathasivam. They even said that Isaac should present a new budget.
