Kochi: In the crucial identification parade conducted in connection with the Jisha murder case, a woman in the neighbourhood identified Ameerul Islam, who is allegedly the killer. The identification parade was held at the sub-jail in Kakkanad, where the culprit was remanded.
Magistrate Shibu Daniel was present during the identification parade.
According to sources, Ameerul was made to stand with some other people, who resembled Ameerul. Police brought only one witness to identify the culprit. During a police interrogation earlier the witness had given the statement that she had seen someone leaving Jisha's home on the day of the crime.
Police have named six witnesses in the case so far.
The accused, an the Assamese youth, was nabbed from Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu. On Friday, he was produced before the Magistrate in Perumbavoor, who remanded him to 14 days' judicial custody. Islam was later taken to a prison in Ernakulam.

The court directed that the accused be provided a lawyer to defend himself and that the police should not be ill-treating Islam.
Police had taken extreme measures to keep the media at bay while Ameerul was being produced before the court earlier. He was made to wear a helmet and was asked to lie down on the floor of a police bus in which he was transported.
